Libra is the one sign of the Zodiac represented by an inanimate object: the scales. The Sun moves into the constellation Libra on the day of the autumnal equinox. Libra is elegant and charming, a lover of harmony. Libra has excellent judgment and leadership ability despite its impatience with criticism. First my news: On August 14^th, I became an ordained Minister. That means:

September 22nd the Sun enters Libra - This is the Fall Equinox and the holiday of Mabon. The glyph for Libra represents the setting sun expressing the balance between night and day: Equinox. Mabon mirrors the Spring Equinox (Oestara) with the Light and Dark forces of the Universe switching ascendancy. This is when home protection rituals are performed: sweep your house with a new broom and then place it outside your door or hang up a fresh garlic braid to protect your home from dark entities.

September 27^th is Yom Kippur - The name "Yom Kippur" means "Day of Atonement," and that pretty much explains what the holiday is. It is a day set aside to "afflict the soul," to atone for the sins of the past year. This day is, essentially, your last appeal, your last chance to change the judgment, to demonstrate your repentance and make amends...

September 28^th is Confucius’ birthday and Ancestor appreciation day - The I-kuan Tao religion is the third most popular religion in the China, according to statistics in the Republic of China Book of the Year 1994-1995. It has two million members in Taiwan who worship in 200 large and medium-sized temples or attend services in 15,000 family shrines.

September 29^th is Michaelmas, the feast of St. Michael the Archangel - This was the traditional day for beginning leases, court sessions and the school year.

October 2^nd is a Full Moon - The Moon and Sun are opposite each other in the sky. The Moon reflects all of the Sun's light. This is the time to perform rituals for protection, clarity of vision and consecration.

October 2^nd to 8^th is Sukkot - The Festival of Sukkot begins on the fifth day after Yom Kippur. The holiday commemorates the forty-year period during which the children of Israel were wandering in the desert. Sukkot is also a harvest festival.

October 5^th is the IEM Get Together - Be there or be retrograde!

October 8th is Columbus Day - By 1492, people had lived in the Western Hemisphere for tens of thousands of years. There is plenty of evidence that there was contact by Asians and Europeans during much of this time. But none was as well documented as Christopher Columbus' claim of Central America for Spain. Blah, blah, blah...I am a Scandinavian-American and I do not celebrate Columbus Day. Now...I don't celebrate Rosh Hashanah either but the banks are still open and the mail still gets here. Why can't government workers work the days the rest of us work? Alternatively, why can't we all agree on some random days off (say one per month) that would be unaffiliated with any single culture or religion?

Scott called from work to say he had heard a report from someone that hijacked airliners had destroyed the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon. He said he was going to go online to confirm it. Before I could do the same I got a call from Margaret, a client and friend in LA who told me about the news and mentioned the scenes of horror she was seeing every time she closed her eyes. I told her that since we are all one consciousness whatever one is feeling all of us feel. So… I believe that many of the feelings she was picking up were the feelings of those involved in the tragedy, that the task for the day was to calm and comfort the fearful thoughts as they came up. I felt that if we could hold the vision of the Light for those who had died or were suffering then we could ease the stress and help them to pass on or recover more harmoniously. She agreed and stated further that she and Caroline had already been “at work” that morning guiding souls who were lost through their fear and confusion. I said I would do the same and we hung up. 

I set up my altar and surrounded myself with light. I prayed for all those who died and were dying in the event. I immediately began to see scenes and flashes of scenes of glass and steel and flame. I focused on calming the fear I felt welling up in me. I dragged my awareness from the fear to the golden white light surrounding me and focused my whole attention on the light while channeling the confusion through me and grounding it.  I invoked grace and their personal guides for those who could not because of their fear and felt a rush as of wind through me. I saw faces and pictures rushing past me as they moved to the light. Then I logged onto MSN Online to see what had happened. I repeated my ritual three times that day and once a day for the rest of the week.

What happened on September 11^th? 

Here are two astrologers' points of view:

Robert P. Blaschke, Astrologer, Earthwalk School of Astrology:

“Our country has been deeply and violently penetrated by terrorists, and understandably there is much fear and trepidation within our nation. The USA has transit Pluto conjunct the Ascendant now (Sibly Chart; July 4, 1776; 5:10 PM LMT; Philadelphia, PA), and this symbolism speaks to the gaping and grievous wound we have suffered right at our very surface. The suddenness of this attack (September 11, 2001; 8:48 AM EDT; Manhattan, NY) can be seen in transit Uranus opposing the secondary progressed USA Ascendant within four minutes of arc (and conjunct the USA progressed Descendant).

This transit Uranus opposition has occurred twice so far on February 20, 2001 and on September 9, 2001, the latter being just two days before the attack. The third and final aspect will perfect on December 24, 2001, and the USA may be vulnerable to another sudden and drastic attack between the 19th and the 29th of December.

What we are experiencing now can be traced back to the intense upheaval of the Uranus-Pluto conjunctions of 1965-1966. Uranus is now approaching a waxing quintile (72 degrees) to Pluto, and this aspect first reached the one degree orb zone between June 9th and July 20th of this year, before retrogradation separated the planets. This quintile will perfect seven times over the next four years, with the first partile aspect occurring on May 19, 2002, and the seventh on February 11, 2005. The planets will actually return a final time to within a one degree orb in December 2005 and January 2006.

Inherent in this symbolism is many things, not the least of which is the potential for terrorists to use technology suddenly and drastically to instill numbing psychological fear into the innocent masses. In Volume II - Sabian Aspect Orbs, I wrote: "Rudhyar believed that the fifth harmonic had to do with the development of a self-reliant consciousness through a mystical process of a purification of the mind for it to become a container for the higher vibrations of Love and Light...One can contrast the positive manifestations of the upturned five-pointed star and its mystical implications with the destructive negativity of the downturned pentagram and its magical connotations. Another example of this polarity is in the architecture of the U.S. Pentagon, a five-sided building housing the very heart of our military which can powerfully attack and destroy, or serve as an imposing deterrent for the sake of peace in the world."

Our western civilization has now entered a spiritual testing zone, one where the unwritten script can either have humanity evolve into the Love and Light or implode into massive global violence and self-destruction during the seven Uranus-Pluto squares of 2012-2015. Many battles will be fought between the forces of Light and Darkness over the next few years as these quintiles occur. Each of us must not cave in to fear, and it will be through our love for one another that we will prevail as a society.

The USA secondary progressed Sun will be conjunct our nation's Moon at 27 Aquarius 10 on January 12, 2002 for the first time in our history. This will unify our land as never before. The Sabian Symbol for this degree is "The Pioneer Cottage Is Prepared For Winter's Rigors; A Tree Has Been Felled And Sawed Up For Fuel, All Is Orderly" (Marc Jones; 1931). What is implied here is to embrace the basics. Brush your teeth, go grocery shopping, balance your checkbook, water your garden and don't lose your grip on daily discipline.

Transit Uranus is stationing this year and next year on the USA third house cusp of 24 Aquarius 51 (Sibly chart with Porphyry houses). The disruptions to our communication and transportation systems have only just begun, and our air travel experience will never again be like it was before Tuesday morning. The precautionary security levels will rise exponentially, with transit Pluto in the USA first house until 2017, and transit Uranus in the USA third house until 2012. Be patient with your air travels, and be kind to those whose job it is to enforce the security provisions. 

Transit Uranus will conjunct the USA secondary progressed Sun five times between April 2, 2002 and November 27, 2003. These 20 months will consist of much destabilization and uncertainty. The opportunity for innovation within our society, along with radical reformation of our collective belief systems (Sun = ruler of the USA 9th) will be pervasive. 

Our nation has the rarity of direct motion Lunar Nodes, and, as such, goes forward when most other nations wish to retreat. We have the karma of leading the free world, and we should be proud of this spiritual dispensation. The secondary progressed USA Lunar Nodes have returned to direct motion on June 25, 2001 and will not be retrograde again until November 23, 2005. This era will coincide with the seven Uranus-Pluto quintiles, and represents a window of time when new seeds of karma can be planted for future harvesting.

In the recent past, the USA progressed Nodes have returned to direct motion between April 1987 and February 1993, between February 1966 and April 1978, between June 1951 and August 1957, and between August 1938 and October 1942. As you can see, these dates coincide with our involvements in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. Please prepare yourself spiritually now for some dark days ahead, and firmly believe that our love of one another will pull us through.

Transit Saturn entered the USA seventh house of open enemies on August 3rd and will retrograde back into the sixth house on November 21st. Saturn will again be angular on the USA Descendant on April 21, 2002, and not enter the eighth house until July 22, 2004 (Sibly chart with Porphyry houses). We have to prepare ourselves to be criticized by other nations for the next few years, but, if necessary, we will go it alone to fight back against the dark forces of terrorism.

Transit Saturn will station conjunct the USA Uranus between December 23, 2001 and March 25, 2002, so we should expect any military and political coalition to unravel at that time. The outcome of the coming war may not be known until July 1, 2002 when transit Saturn is conjunct the USA Mars. 

Many astrologers have lectured and written about Tecumseh's Curse, wherein American presidents have died in office or have been assassinated at the Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions in the earth element since 1840. President Bush was elected last year during the final conjunction in earth (May 28, 2000 @ 22 Taurus 43). President Reagan was elected in 1980 during a Grand Conjunction, but it had occurred in the air element, as the cycle does just before it returns to the previous element one last time.

The USA secondary progressed Sun in the 27th degree of Aquarius, representing our president, is now at the finger of a Yod with the progressed USA North Node at 26 Cancer 53 and the progressed USA Neptune at 26 Virgo 29. This symbolism is open for interpretation, but I feel that this president is changing the spiritual direction of the country, either by remaining alive and leading us through these dark days ahead, or by dying. It is of note that both vice-presidential nominees had planets at 22 Taurus, the degree of last year's Grand Conjunction (Cheney = Uranus @ 22 Taurus; Lieberman = Saturn @ 22 Taurus).

With Jupiter transiting through his exaltation in Cancer, we must realize spiritually that we are all one human family. When a family member becomes violent and threatens the rest of the unit, they must be removed from the house. Our nation has been visited by a violent force that not only must be removed from our house, but also from the greater global dwelling.”

This is going to be a rather lengthy edition of the Duncan Domain. I had other projects to report on but an event occurred on September 11, 2001 that has pushed all that aside for now. I’ll first report on the spiritual healing activities that Inga and I and others have been doing and then I’ll share my emotional and rational response to the event.

I walked into work the morning of September 11, 2001 and a co-worker stopped me on the stairs to tell me about planes crashing into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. “It’s just like the movie Independence Day!” Confused and wary, I continued up the stairs and went into the boardroom where CNN was reporting the events. My mind reeled at the implications and the audacity of the attack. It was difficult to accept that the graphic images of the planes crashing into the towers were real vs. some super realistic big budget action movie based on a Tom Clancy novel.

I was raised on Vietnam, the specter of nuclear war, assassinations, terrorism, mass public shootings, etc., so my emotional skin has become pretty thick over the years. This stuff, out of necessity, rolls off my psyche like water off a duck’s back. So I began to wonder where the intense waves of emotion that began hitting me that morning were coming from. Fear, panic, despair, horror and anger and it just kept building up in intensity. By the time I called Inga for help, I was on the verge of losing it mentally and emotionally. It was like I was hanging on to a tree to keep from being swept away by a sudden, massive flood and my fingers were slipping.

I could barely speak to her as I kept fighting back to urge to start sobbing uncontrollably. As we spoke, I could sense that I was standing in the midst of a large, ghostly crowd and I realized they were the source of the emotions that were engulfing me. Inga told me how she and other friends and clients had begun working on healing this pain. She said the ghosts were attracted to my Light, Love and strength. They were seeking healing and safety. She instructed me to ground myself and to strengthen my Light as it would show them the way to the Light itself.

Reminded of my training with White Elk and of my strength, I said goodbye and got to work. I left the office and walked across the street where I’ve been creating sacred circles for the last few months or so in the landscaped planters each morning as I walk to the deli for my morning latte. (The planters contain big boulders, trees and shrubs and elementals appeared in them one day and asked me to perform this work for them so it’s become a daily ritual for me. Yes, an office park can contain sacred spaces!)

Being near these now sacred spaces, I was quickly able to get grounded and expand my consciousness. I could now see the multitude of ghosts around me and it felt like I was standing waist deep in the ocean as wave after wave of intense emotion tried to sweep me away. I pulled even more of the earth energy into my root chakra while pulling white light into my crown chakra. I then felt better anchored and the waves broke around me instead of sweeping through me. I saw a portal of divine Light open to my right and I reached out to the many souls around me, hugging them, sharing my love and strength. I pointed out the tunnel of Light and many of them walked into it. As more of them did, the waves of fear and horror began to lessen. I kept wading in deeper, reaching out to them while strengthening my grounding. I wept as I went. There were so many of them and they were so scared and lost. This was so overwhelming compared to my similar experience at the Little Bighorn Battlefield last year. I felt the presence of other healers, like me, responding to this crisis as well. I also saw my higher, spiritual self continuing to work even as my physical self slowed down, exhausted. The emotional pressure on me had now subsided so I retracted my consciousness and closed down my chakras. I knew the healing work would continue until all were taken to the Light.

That night, Inga guided me in performing more healing work. She asked me to project my consciousness into a beautiful, restful place. I did and it felt so peaceful and rejuvenating. I bathed in it, feeling safe from the chaos and insanity of the day. She instructed me to allow more of the lost souls to come to me so they could be sent to the Light but I resisted. I did not want all that horror and fear to invade this magical place. I could see the ghostly shapes of the World Trade towers through the trees of the glade I was in and I would not let that hellish place into my sanctuary. Instead, I told Inga that I felt compelled to go to the towers. Inga said that was not necessary but I could tell that the souls left at the site were too scared and confused to come to me. I was also not afraid to bring the Light to them. She agreed and I went to the Towers.

I found myself in the midst of mountains of rubble and wreckage. I felt the intense pain, fear and horror that permeated the place. I ignored it and began casting a sacred circle by pulling Earthly energy from below and spiritual energy from above, mixing them inside my body and then projecting that energy down my right arm into a stone wand that I held. As the stone glowed from the infusion of sacred energy, I caused a beam of light to emanate from it and I spun slowly clockwise thus drawing a circle on the ground. As the circle was completed, a pillar of energy formed linking the Earth to the sky and the Universe beyond. Inga called out to all the spirit guides of the lost souls to come and stand on the circle. I saw a multitude of luminous beings appear and line up. I felt their clarity and sense of purpose and it strengthened me. Now the ghosts began rising up out of the wreckage and I greeted them while escorting them to their guides who in turn, took them to the tunnel of Light that had appeared.

I suddenly felt compelled to look up and I saw the ghostly shape of the now destroyed buildings, towering above me. To my horror, I saw the ghostly forms of people trapped on the floors way over my head. I floated up into the air and took the hands of the first few I came to. They were absolutely terrified but I projected Love and strength into them and they came down into the circle with me where their guides greeted them. I was about to go back up for another group when Inga instructed me to invite the guides to go up and collect their own people while I worked on keeping the circle strong. I did so and the air was filled with guides rising up into the buildings. It was an amazing sight and my heart was filled with wonder and joy!

I refocused on the circle and as I did, Elementals in the form of leprechauns and fairies came into the circle and began working. The fairies were flitting back and forth in the air while the little guys were stomping all around waving their arms about. They looked very busy and Inga said they were starting the work of healing the energy of the site. It was quite a scene! (The last time I saw Elementals doing this sort of work was when Inga and Kindel were making magical soaps in our kitchen. There were so many of them bustling about that I couldn’t get in the door to get a glass of water!)

Inga and I went on to create sacred circles at the Pentagon and at the Pennsylvania crash site with the same results. Feeling whole once again and like I could finally sleep peacefully, I returned to normal consciousness.

This week has been filled with editorials and speeches and interviews all focused on trying to make sense of this tragic event. I’ve heard and seen everything from the heart wrenching interviews with relatives looking for their lost loved ones to complete idiots calling for the carpet bombing of entire foreign countries. A good friend of ours, Eileen, sent out an e-mail from her sister that hit pretty close to my own emotional and rational center. After ruminating about this all week, I sat down and wrote my own “editorial”. It feels good to get it off my chest. One thing I know for certain: we’ve got problems and there are no simple answers. So here goes:

I view the attack this week as the cost of our brutal, insensitive foreign policy that is based on propping up unsustainable and destructive economic models. Every repressive regime we have funded, all the terrorists that have been trained by our government agencies, all the assassinations, all the missiles and bombs we have rained down on other countries, etc., etc., etc., have done little but fuel a seemingly pervasive and endless hatred of our country. When did we shift from being the rebuilders of Europe after WWII to being the heavy handed bully of the World?

George W. Bush and his advisors may think he’ll be able to soothe our deeply emotional response to this event and look “presidential” by launching millions of dollars of cruise missiles at some vague targets in Afghanistan but even if the military got lucky and actually killed Osama Bin Laden, scores of others would call him a holy martyr and rise up with righteous justification to take his place. In other words, our clumsy, violent response would just fuel the vicious cycle of brutality and hatred.

I hear so many Americans talking on TV about what this country stands for and to my ears, much of it is a cry against the disruption of their status quo. They lace their protestations with words like freedom and democracy but I wonder if they understand the true meaning of those principles. Regardless of what is said, our daily actions speak much louder. America has sunk into a destructive cycle of consumerism that is using up the planet. We've quietly given up control of our government to an unholy alliance of the military/industrial complex, our corporations and special interests in exchange for a false sense of freedom, security and reality.

The vast majority of us do not protest how our government spends billions on the most insane bullshit. (Those of us who do protest are labeled as liberals, hippies or worse.) If we bother to vote, we generally have only worthless candidates to choose from. We complacently go about consuming the planet's resources as if they were endless while watching mindless TV. (I think that’s the real addiction problem in this country!) Our government unleashes the military to brutalize anyone who gets in the way of our gas prices or threatens to rock our economic luxury liner. It has also trained and funded terrorists to commit illegal and immoral acts and then uses them as convenient, larger than life enemies when they turn against us. Who needs the Soviets and the Cold War? Our security agencies can keep the game going much more economically these days.

Did any of us agree to run our country or spend our taxes in the following manner?

• The war on drugs

• The new war on terrorism

• Countless illegal black ops against domestic and foreign targets

• The constant government repression of alternative health care & religious practices

• The constant threat against women's rights to control their own bodies

• The continuous downward spiral of our public education system

• Government subsidies of senseless, unsustainable industries and programs like:

• the destructive logging, mining and grazing of public lands

• primitive automotive and fossil fuel technologies

• nuclear anything

• Star Wars missile programs

• the IRS, etc., etc.

Meanwhile, the global temperature is steadily rising. The weather is turning more and more violent and unpredictable each year and species are becoming extinct at an alarming rate while our government unilaterally walks away from global environmental accords.

Our founding fathers went to war with England over far, far less. If they were here now, I think they'd be telling us that we're long overdue for a good, old-fashioned American revolution. Don't get me wrong. I will steadfastly refuse to pick up a rifle and shoot anyone or to make bombs. I will only participate in a revolution that uses the non-violent methods of Mr. Gandhi to bring our daily actions back in alignment with our noble American principles and reflect a true stewardship of this planet. In my humble opinion, anything less loving and less respectful will not get the job done anyway. -- Scott Bruce Duncan */:-)
