Little Bighorn Battlefield Tour 2000

Day 2 - In search of twisties!
Richland, WA to Missoula, MT - 376 miles

Oh my God! We had fun on Hwy 12 between Richland and Lewiston but the real fun began when we started up the Clearwater River canyon. And that was just the warm-up for what followed when we branched off and followed the Middle Fork of the Clearwater up to Lolo Pass.

When we saw the huge orange sign warning us of winding roads for the next 77 miles, we cheered and sped up into the all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of high speed sweepers. Most of the turns are rated for 40 mph which translates into high speed sweepers.

Lenny getting gas in Lolo Pass

Stopping for some fossilized fuel for the iron pony near the top of Lolo Pass in eastern Idaho after riding all those twisties. No wonder Lenny is smiling!

Tea and smoke break in Lolo Pass

Ah, time for a cold ice tea, a smoke and some chit chat with the locals. "You boys going to Sturgis?"

I think it just mooed at me when I poked it with my fork! Lenny preparing to tackle some Montana prime rib. This was not where all the tourists go but a spot where the locals eat and it was excellent. Superb local microbrews, too! Tip: Always ask the locals where they go to eat. That approach paid off on the entire trip.
